Today was a Firsts day. I woke up early this morning and couldn't get back to sleep so I started reading my Slaying the Debt Dragon: How one family paid off $147,000 in debt in 4 years. I'm reading about the different techniques they applied to get that much debt paid off so fast. Then I'm going to talk to hubby about writing down all our debts and starting to tackle it. I don't think that hubby and I will go as far as not eating meat in order to save that money to put towards bills. But I am intrigued with the idea of being able to pay off all our debts and our mortgage in a quicker fashion than 30 years so hubby can retire before he turns 72.
Eventually I got up and heated up some Hearty Chicken Casserole for breakfast for us and then we jumped in the shower. Still using the hallway shower as this paycheck is all dedicated to paying bills and the Dentist bill, except for a small amount we were using for going to the movies today.
Hubby had to go to the school to let in someone that would otherwise not be able to gain access to the closed school. And then he had to gas up and turn in the rental truck. And do that on our own dime with having to wait until Thursday to get reimbursed. I hate that part about this company. Same thing about the food he had to buy for himself while he was up in Denver over the weekend for the school, but that's how it is done, so no use getting upset about it. We do get the money back, it just ties our money up for a while.
So I had to go to mass by myself. On my way there, I almost changed my mind, not wanting to go alone. But I went and I'm glad I did. Father Jim was talking about Contemplative Prayer, just meditating on God, not using words but focusing on things that God has created or done. I call it Basking in His Glory. And that is what I have been doing lately, not being able to really pray but just telling God, let me bask in your glory. I had been think that I haven't been praying like I used to and that I really need to do it more when I came to mass today. I'm glad I did come because this sermon was exactly what I needed to hear.
After mass, I turned my phone back on and called hubby. He was finished with everything and waiting for me at the truck rental place for me to pick him up. I made good time getting across town and met him in time to make the 230pm showing of Jurassic World, the latest Dino movie with Chris Pratt. It was good fun with fake science. If scientist ever get good enough to make dinosaurs, Lord help us! Their time is past and chaos will reign if they ever see the light of day again.
Seeing the movie was really good, it's been a while since hubby and I went out like this. We had a lot of fun watching the movie, sharing a large soda and a large popcorn with extra butter. When the movie was over I stopped in the restroom. While I did that, hubby took the time to ask the cleaning crew what time the movie San Andreas started. They said in 10 minutes. So when I came out of the restroom, hubby suggested that we, being middle aged, are invisible and to prove it, directed me in that theater. We walked in, past the same cleaning crew that hubby talked to when we exited the first movie, and sat down. I expected that at any moment, staff would come in and demand to see our ticket stubs. We would be called out as theives. But no such thing happened and we enjoyed a second movie!
Now lest you thing I do such a thing on a regular basis, this is the first time I have ever done something like this. And when I go to confession this coming Saturday, I shall be very contrite and accept my recompense.
It was a very good day with hubby. We had fun, got into a little mischief, and picked up some dinner to go.
