Today was a baking day. I woke up slowly, not really wanting to get up, trying to stay asleep, but my body said it was time. I pet Dalyhlia, our 17 year old cat that sleeps on my side pillow at my stomach, and convinced her I needed to move the covers and get up. She grudgenly consented.
So I came downstairs and opened the rattie boys' cage door, put down some peach yogurt for them, and ate the rest myself. I drank a Pepsi from the can and was on the computer when I heard Hot Dog outside. He wasn't in my yard, he was across the street at Janice's door, meowing. So I took food and water out, and sat down to talk to him. My cat, Emma, came out with me and I pet her too. I tried to convince Hot Dog to come over when Janice yelled out the window she would open the door and feed him shortly, she had just gotten out of the shower. I told her no rush, I was trying to keep him company.
Then I came in and went and got dressed. Jean shorts and a head scarf, this time the one with little green frogs on it. When E left for work, I was sitting down at the kitchen table reading my current issue of Bazaar, my new fashion magazine.
I got it because soon I want to start sewing my own clothes, among other things. And I want to know what is fashionable and in style, not that that ever really mattered to me. But I was looking for things that I like. Cause I don't really know what I like. I know what I wear is comfortable and I have recently bought shirts that I thought were flattering for me to wear. But that's about all. I had gone through all my clothes and gotten rid of stuff that was too big, old, stuff I haven't worn in a year or two, and stuff that is too small.
The magazine is almost all fashion ads of one sort or another. The things I looked at were the models faces. Most of them are photographed with their mouths open and teeth showing now. Most of them have short, unpolished nails. A lot of them are wearing ankle boots. And pants that stop at the ankles. And the make up is done to look like the model has no make up on. and the hair is usually a little mused.
Out of the 300 plus pages I looked at last night, I had yet to find an article, it was all ads. But that was what I was looking for. I wanted to see if there was anything that I liked, and I did find an ad with two women in very simple outfits. I like one of them with a simple white top with no sleeve, but she had lace flowers that were sewn onto the top. There was a simple flared skirt that came down to the knee. I don't remember the shoes. I tore the page out. I'm going to tape into a notebook. I also took out the page after it that advertised nail polish. I really liked some of the names they came up with.
After a while, I ate a hot pocket for lunch, ham and cheese, then put away the magazine. I had to bake the rest of the Short Stack Cookies. All together, the recipe made 6 dozen. They come out really flat and crunchy. They are very sweet and good. Frank and hubby love them. The two dozen that I made yesterday were almost all gone this morning. Frank ate a bunch yesterday, and had more with his coffee for breakfast. Hubby ate some after dinner, then when I went to sleep and he come downstairs, he ate more of them. Before I go to bed tonight, I'm going to put some in a bag to set aside for Holly for when she comes over on Tuesday. I promised her cookies and dog biscuits.
Frank paid us today and now I will be able to do the menu for another week. Tomorrow I will figure out what to have next week by looking at the food ads. I'm thinking that steak is on sale at Safeway, maybe, and I will try to see if maybe I can work that in. But no promises. Not mentioning it to the guys. I don't want to get their hopes up.
Since I was baking when they guys came home,Frank because he was off work, and hubby for lunch, Frank offered to buy dinner when hubby got off. Fried chicken and sides. Hubby was only working until 8pm tonight.
I took some cookies over to Janice and then took a ride with her to the paint store. They have decided to paint the inside of the house in neutral colors to get the house ready to sell. Her husband has decided he wants to sell the house and move to Florida next year. So we picked out paint sample chips and brochures. Then I told her we should look at Home Depot. Since they aren't going to be living in the house, they don't need to get the top quality Sherwin Williams paint at $64 a gallon. And Home Depot has sample bottles they can have mixed up to paint swatches on the walls to see if they really like the shades. So we went there too. I picked up some paint chips in greens and yellows for my bedroom.
The evening went by and hubby came home with dinner. We fed the beasties and are headed upstairs. Project Runway is on tonight but won't be on Hulu until tomorrow so we will watch Project Runway Canada.
