Today was a remembrance day. Today we take the time to remember all our fallen brothers and sisters on the horrible day, 9/11/2001. The day the towers fell and brave men and women stormed them to help rescue the trapped people. I remember being woken up by my friend, told to turn on the tv and watch what was going on. I saw the attack on the second tower happen. I saw the tragedy unfold as I sat there, keeping my young daughter home from school and calling into work that I would not be in, and cried. I was afraid for our safety. We didn't know if that was to be the only attack on the United States or if others were going to follow.
As the day progressed, tensions grew and we all stuck close to the tv, watching and waiting for additional news. We heard about the downed plane where the passengers sacrificed their own lives to bring down the plane instead of having it used as a weapon against another building. We heard about the attack on the capital. We continued to cry that day. The nation suffered. We suffered. We were afraid. We got angry.
What I did today pales in comparison to remembering this day. Those that lost their lives will forever be in my mind and prayers.
