Today was a languorous day. We had Church at noon, so I slept until hubby woke me up at 1030am. He was getting ready to fix breakfast so I had a little bit until that would be ready. So I got up and got my shower first thing. I knew it would take at least half an hour or longer to make bacon and french toast and there would not be time afterwards. We had picked up some Applewood Smoked Bacon to try out and it was a thick cut so would take a while to do.
I got dressed and headed downstairs. Breakfast was good, I had blueberry syrup on my french toast. I started off with 3 pieces and only at 2/3rds of them. The bacon was ok, but frankly, I preferred the regular bacon we could get crispy. I'm not big on smoked taste. Frank cleaned up while hubby went upstairs to get ready. I cleaned out the fridge of leftovers so we would have some room when we stopped at the store on the way home.
Church was really good. They talked about Paul's letter that says that women should submit or be subservient to their husbands like the Church is subservient to Christ, As Christ is the bridegroom and the Church is his bride. The part I like is one that most people tend to forget, that the husband should treat the wife as he would his own flesh, to love and cherish and take care of her like he would of himself. To value her.., consider her important and he should feel worthy of her the better he treats her. To me, this means that the wife should be just as valued as the man values himself. He should listen to her counsel, treat her with respect and kindness. Take her opinions as he would take his own thoughts. The Catholic Church does not believe in divorce, but, as the Father was saying today, they also do not believe in a person should be submissive to an abusive person. Either the husband abusing the wife, or the wife abusing the husband. This is not what a husband being the Head of the Household means. No person has the right to be lord over another and abuse that relationship, be it physical, sexual or psychological abuse. And no person should be submissive thinking the other person has that right. It was quite good.
Dylan, of the rattie boys, really likes to hoard food. I make it a habit to leave 8 or so pieces of dry dog food in a plastic lid on the craft table. And a bag of raw peanuts in the shell. When I sit here at the computer, I open the cage door for them and they like to come out. Zeke will wander a little, climb the cage to the top and jump up on top of the bookcase. Dylan doesn't climb, he looks for the food He likes to go under my computer stand and peek out. I have the bag of peanuts open to the edge of the table because one night, he kept getting peanuts and storing them in the cage. I waited for him to stop, but he kept going! After the 5th one, I finally moved the bag out of his reach. When I clean the cage, I find his little stockpile of food and have to throw it all out. So now I just open the shells and hand him about 4. He always seems happy. With having the dog food there all the time, he doesn't hoard that as often, but will only take 1-3 pieces a day.
Tonight they were excited, we had corn on the cob and I cut half an ear in half again so they could each have their own piece. I also cut up one of their favorites, tomatoes. Of course, they have full time access to their seed mixture. This morning for breakfast, they got honeydew melon and grapes, more of their favorites.
After church hubby and I stopped at the grocery store because we were out of butter. We also picked up some fresh fruits, plum, pears, apples and some fresh veggies like an avocado, bell peppers and a cucumber. Cheese was on sale for $2.77 for shredded cheddar cheese for 16 oz. I got picked up two packages of it. The day before I had bought a 32 oz package of cheese for $8.69, so I was going to take that back. Since hubby wanted more meat and potatoes, we found a roast for him to cook for dinner tonight and picked up another 10 pounds of potatoes. We picked up a few other things and it came out to about $70.
When we got home and I started to put the stuff away while hubby started the laundry, I realized that I had gotten distracted by the cheese when I was on my way to get the butter and completely forgot about the butter. So I went upstairs to tell hubby about this, figuring we would have a good laugh. He had changed out of clothes and had shucked his pants and underwear. He was in sweats when I told him. He grouched at me, that I went specifically to get it so I better go back. I told him I wasn't going so he got huffy and said he would go. I was just going to go tomorrow but said no, I would go. He was stomping around, so I just got the keys and left.
When I got to the store, I realized that I had also forgotten to get the Progresso Soup that was on sale, 4 for $6. The ad mentioned a digital coupon so I thought it was on my King Sooper's loyalty card, but the additional $2 didn't come off at checkout. I picked up some pasta and 6 cheese spaghetti sauce, along with some hot italian sausage to make a dinner this week. Hubby likes pasta. Tomato soup, 4 more packages of shredded cheddar cheese, and two boxes of butter. $33 later, and I was done.
When I got home, hubby came downstairs and said that he had gotten dressed and come downstairs to go and found me and the car gone. I told him that I said I was going and I did. He said he was sorry he was being grouchy. I told him he wasn't being grouchy, he was being a butthead. He said he didn't want to fight so he was apologizing. He was going to do laundry but otherwise, he would be upstairs. I put away the stuff and froze the cheese, keeping one package out to make cheesy dog biscuits. I had an extra day to do it, so I decided to do them tomorrow morning and spend the time with him today.
We relaxed, re-watched Project Runway's episode from last week and and Apprentice UK. They are filming Series 11 now so we can look forward to that being released in the fall. It's on BBC, and the episodes show up on YouTube.
We are really excited as Fear the Walking Dead is premiering tonight! We finally get to see the beginning of the zombie apocalypse! And it will be focusing on a family in LA, Ca. And, just like in The Walking Dead, this is a world that has no zombie movies or books. They have never heard of George Romero, and the word "Zombie" isn't in their vocabulary.
We planned on eating dinner before the show so we would be cleaned up and done by the time it comes on. And there should be The Talking Dead afterwards to digest the episode. Yeah!
I watered my tomato plants tonight as it has been several days. I have 6 little tomatoes! I went to look for the black knee highs I had set aside to tie up the plants but couldn't find them. I may have put them in the donation bags that are still sitting on the floor by the bedroom door. The cat ripped a hole in one so I'm going to take the stuff out and put it in a new bag. Then I will cut up something and tie up the plants.
I watered my clover sprouts, too. I have them growing in a bird seed container on the front window sill. During the day I open the jar and Friday I noticed I needed more water, but forgot. Today, I saw them and panicked, thinking they had dried out. But no! They had grown into short green things. I put another quarter of an inch of water in it and put the lid back on. I put them back in the front window. We don't get direct sun in any window much because of the trees in the front, and the covered porch in the back, so all I get is indirect light, so I wasn't sure if I could grow the sprouts. Mom has her's under a grow light. I'm too cheap to get one. If these grow well, I will have to tell her indirect light works well too. Then I will see if the dogs like to eat them. Maybe make a dog biscuit with them. Mom and dad out some in the dogs food and they like to eat them. Cuts down on them eating the grass.
Well, it's almost time for Fear the Walking Dead. The Strain is on tonight too. Boy howdy, it's good to be alive!
