Today was a grandmothering day. I woke up at 9am when the alarm went off. Hubby and I had talked about taking the dogs out for a walk this morning but his neck and back were hurting him so I told him he didn't had to go. So I got up and wrote down the dream I had. I'm trying to get back in the habit of writing down my dreams so I can think about what they mean. And I have such detailed dreams. Some of them are from God. Some are from my subconscious trying to tell me something.
This morning's dream started off with me at a Rape Recovery Center. I was preforming my final task of talking to people, one at a time, going from person to person. When I got to the last person, everyone started to congratulate me, I had just graduated the course.
Then it was time for me to go back to my life, which was in the Army. When I arrived back at my post, I was greeted with lots of congratulations from everyone, which were all women. Then we went out on a mission.
I was in the cab of a truck but I could stand up. The driver's door was bowed out and hung on with straps. I was leaning out of the truck against the door with my rifle in my hand. I was on guard, looking for the enemy. All of a sudden, I see a bare foot and lower leg sticking out from under my truck. I go to raise my rifle but I don't have it in my hands, it's inside the cab leaning up against the passenger seat. I go back in to get it and when I return to my position, I don't see the foot anymore. I want to call out to my fellow soldiers what I saw and tell them to look out, look under there, but I can't. I don't know if I can't because I am scared or if I can't because I'm not supposed to make noise and draw attention to myself. That's when I woke up.
The dream was haunting and caused me anxiety. I ended up taking an anxiety pill. But I could have just been anxious about our daughter, Sarah, and the granddaughters coming to visit today. It's been 6 months since we have seen them and a lot has happened since them. Before, Li An, was 16 months old and she was anti social and a screamer. She didn't want us to hug her or play with her, she was a big girl, already in 3T but not friendly. Shay Li was just 2 weeks old.
Hubby and I cooked the hamburgers and hot dogs and fries ahead of time and just kept them warm, knowing they would be hungry when they got here. And I wanted the food to have a chance to be cooled off enough that Li An would be able to eat it without any problems. Earlier in the morning I made a sour cream coffee cake, from Bisquick, and rotisseried a chicken for stacked chicken enchiladas on Sunday. I kept a really close eye on it and calculated it would take an hour and a half to cook but it only took an hour.
Sarah arrived and Li An came right over to me to give me a hug when she got out of the car! I felt like a real grandmother! I told Sarah to tell the girls to call me Nana and Sarah had told Li An to "Go to Nana and give her a hug" and she did! I picked her up and talked to her, took her in the house, and she was very adorable.
The visit went very well. Li An was a completely different child, she will be two in November. She is used to having baby sister to share her mom's time with now, Shay Li turned 6 months old today. I was able to play with her, take her out to the playhouse and show her how to look out the windows and shut the door. We sat and ate lunch, then went inside and introduced her to hubby's pinball machine. She learned how to pull back on the plunger to set the ball in motion, she hit the button for the flipper, and she loved to watch the ball moving, yelling "Go ball" and when the ball got lost, "Awe".
We got some pictures of her throughout the visit. Then we got some pictures of me feeding Shay Li. I held her for a little while, as did all of us. She was a very agreeable child.
Sarah had brought me a kit to make a 3D impression of the granddaughters hands. But the gel part of the mix required that the girls hold their hands still for over 2 minutes and Li An was just not up to the task. We ended up just doing Shay Li's hand and jerry-rigging the mold. But we finally got the plaster poured the mold sat for an hour hardening. Then it was time to take it out and cut away the gel. It took a little while using a pen knife to get all the gel off but it turned out really neat. Now it has to harden for 48 hours, then I can paint and seal it.
For Li An, I had a 4 piece plaster refrigerator magnet set with some paints. I set her and I up outside on the patio and showed her how to dip the brush into the paint, then put the paintbrush on the figure. She had a really good time and did well. It was the first time she had ever painted and it wasn't until the end when she figured out that she could paint herself. I marked each of the magnets with her name and the date. Then I kept two and gave two to Sarah to make the occasion. They are beautiful.
It was sad to see them leave. We had gone out front and sat in the swing, put a blanket down under the trees and played on there. We had a very full day. But hubby and I was very happy.
After they left, we cleaned up and then hubby and I left to go get some pot for his friend, Brent. We also went to Walmart to pick up milk, baked beans and pot holders. Milk was still on sale for $1.99 a gallon, we got two cans of baked beans and I picked up a package of construction paper that was on Back To School sale. We found a set of two terry cloth dish towels with a mitt and two potholders for $4.97, so we got it. In turquoise, my favorite color.
The rest of the evening was spent resting up from the visit. Oh, earlier in the day, we got a visit from a church group. They were out in the community asking neighbors if there was anything they could do for us and if we had any trash that we wanted them to haul away. I took them up on their offer and they took all the trash out of Elroy, the pick up, and also took our old sleeper sofa and big old tv. I tried to give them a $10 donation, but they wouldn't take it. They gave me a card with information about an outdoor service and baptism they had planned for tomorrow. It's a a park and we can bring a grill and chairs, blanket, and eat lunch with fellowship. I plan on asking Cassie and Drew if they would like to go tomorrow.
