Today was an awesome day! Hubby was off today and even though we have been married for 12 years and known each other for almost 20, we still love every chance we get to spend time together. So we were looking forward to spending the day together. We slept in until about 930am then both woke up without the alarm. While hubby got up and did his routine, I stayed in bed, watched The Price is Right and ate yogurt. Hubby's breakfast of choice was leftover meatloaf. He really liked how I cooked it this time.
We had looked up the movie times for Ant Man and it was playing down south at Tinseltown at noon, so at 11, we were dressed and headed out. We didn't know what to expect since today was opening day but there wasn't a crowd. We took our popcorn bucket with our free refill tag and our refillable cup. When they refilled the popcorn, they didn't take off the tag so we get a 2nd free refill, yeah!
The movie was really good, lots of action and touching moments. There was humor in it too. There was lots of ants, too. We even get attached to an Ant that Paul Rudd names Anthony or Antony, a winged ant that he flys on. It was heartbreaking when he died violently. Ant Man's daughter is named Cassie, too so there was an instant connection there. Hubby is a long time comic book collector and worker in the industry and said that this movie really played close to the comic. He had told me about the Ant Man story on the way to the movie.
When we had gone into the movie, it was sunny and rather warm. When we came out of the movie, it was overcast and cooler. It was a nice change of pace and one we have gotten used to over the course of this summer. During our drive back, we talked about going to lunch but neither one of us was hungry right then so we decided to go get my hair cut. I had let the top grow and it was becoming unmanageable with having to drive with the windows down so I wanted to cut it very short again. Hubby dropped me off at Great Clips and went home to use the bathroom and drop off the popcorn and refillable cup.
I ended up waiting for about half an hour to get my hair cut. Hubby showed up just before they called me and suggested I get my hair washed since it was a little dirty and looked like it. It was really nice to get the head massage when they were doing the conditioner. There is something really nice about getting your hair washed by someone else. Definitely worth the $4 Great Clips charges to do it.
It took another hour to cut my hair. The stylist took her time to make sure she got it just right and I really appreciated it. Though it was a little shorter than I originally anticipated, I really like everything she did. And she made a couple of good calls on places where it looked a little funny, like stuck out a little, and got it just right. And they must have been having a sale on haircuts cause it only came to $13 with the shampoo so I gave her a $7 tip. I really liked the job she had done and she was a nice person. I wanted to let her know I appreciated her.
By this time though, hubby and I were hungry so we decided to try out the little neighborhood restaurant, Yakatori's. A family owned restaurant that we found out was over 30 years old. They had been in this location for over 20 year and hubby said he had been there about 20 years ago. When we arrive at 330, it was early for the dinner crowd and late for the lunch crowd and we had the place to ourselves. We chose a booth in the middle of the restaurant wall where we had a good view of the place to sit and look at the decorations. There was a wall mural painted on the wall behind us, lots of pictures of the a famous hero and lots of statures here and there. Once we sat down the lady brought us soup right off the bat. How can you not like a place that brings you soup right away before you order anything?
She brought us menus and then I ordered the Teriyaki Beef and hubby got the Yakatori Chicken. Both come with white rice. We got a cabbage salad next then the two appetizers we ordered arrived. I can't remember the names of of them but one was a type of wonton wrapper spring roll with a sweet dipping sauce and the other was chunks of fried beef with a mustard dipping sauce. The lady was trying to eat her dinner so we helped ourselves to drinks and it was a relaxed fun meal. We are going to take my parents to a late lunch there on Sunday, I have decided. Since the portions were really big, we had plenty of leftovers to take home.
When we came out, I saw that the dog rescue thrift store had a bunch of stuff outside the store and we went over. I found 3 shirts, a pair of jean shorts and a long skirt in my size. Hubby found a couple of books and we decided to get a coffee table book from a famous museum too. I found a coffee cup that says Good Morning, Let the Whining Begin! All sales go to help the organization make $500 grants to different dog rescue organizations.
After that, we headed home with the thought that that was the first and last time we would spend money just to spend money. We have a few more things we need to get but those were luxury purchase. Thought I really did need the clothes.
When we got home, I moved a couple of plastic chairs from the backyard into the front yard and brought out the tv tray to set drinks on. Then hubby and I sat there reading and talking for awhile. When the ice cream truck came down the street, we stopped him and bought a couple of treats. You should always support your local ice cream man! I could only eat half my treat so hubby put it in a plastic bag in the freezer for me for later.
We took care of the beasties and let the rattie boys have some free range time. Then I wrote to my cousin for a little while. Since hubby has to leave at 6am and that means getting up at 530, we are retiring early.
