Today was an expensive day. The day started out good, I woke up at 7am, long before the alarm was due to go off. The only thing on my mind was how much money we owed for bills this month, today, and how hubby and I have been fiscally irresponsible for the last week. We just got paid but had spent some of the money that we got in to pay the mortgage but were short so we just kept eating out and spending. Bad us! So when we got paid yesterday, we paid the mortgage first thing, paid the utilities and paid to get our taxes done by Eileen today.
The only thing I had to do was go see Eileen at 2pm in her house and get the taxes done. I found out that we still had an $800 energy credit, which was good news but for 2014, I received a 1099 from the Student Loan people for forgiving my student loans because I am permanently disabled. There was a big process I had to go through in order to get forgiven for my student loans, which is good, and they were forgiven, which is good, but then they 1099 so you have to report all the money you received to go to school as income. So today I had to report $17,000 on my tax returns as additional income. Mine and hubby's tax returns.
So at 115pm, I left our house and, going by a brief vocal instruction from hubby for directions, and by a distant memory, I made my way to our tax lady's place. I love Eileen! My parents had been going to her for tax preparation and referred us over because she is good, and charges less than half of the tax franchises. So this is our third year with her. And I am so happy. She put all the tax documents in her program, asked me lots of questions and made some adjustments.
I knew with all the extra income we would end up owing this year, so I made a joke that I thought we would end up owing $4000. I guess the joke was on me cause when we were finished inputting all the information, we owed federal $3200 and the state of Colorado $1250! We set up in our federal tax return for automatic payments of $75 to come out of our checking account every month on the 3rd. The State of Colorado are uppity bitches that don't allow you to make payment arrangements for money you owe and just give you a form with the whole amount. So we took the form and blanked out the full amount and when we get some extra money, we will fill in the form with the amount we are sending in and then wait for the State to contact us with information to set up a payment plan. We are ok with the federal payment plan we set up because it will take us 44 months to pay off the $3200 if we only send in $75 a month and they said as long as you pay it off within 72 months, I think.
This is what I am looking at. Cassie is getting married May 16, on a Saturday. I am trying to arrange a two day mini-honeymoon for Cass and Drew. I am trying to get all my family to go in on a two night stay at a "full service" Marriott Hotel. That's a hotel with a pool, hot tub, restaurant and free wi-fi. I want to give them the two night stay and money for eating out. Tonight I am going to talk to her about it, to see if they have any plans. Drew's parents don't leave for a couple of weeks and I thought they would like to get some private time right after the wedding instead of just spending it with his parents at the house. Drew's parents, Becky and Jerry, are going to give the kids two round trip tickets to Italy so the kids can come out to Italy to visit them. They are moving there for 4 or 5 years. The kids are going to live in their house and take care of the cats and the house while they are gone. That will give them time to save up money to buy a house.
I have to mention that when I was on the way home, God spoke to me. He suddenly put into my head the refinance on the house, that led to us being able to afford the bankruptcy, which cleared our debts and now allowed us the freedom to be able to pay this tax bill. God told me "See what happens when you trust Me. I know the bigger plan."
