Today was a fun day. I started as I have since Saturday, getting up at 730am and going next door to feed and water the neighbors' dogs. Then I came home and watched a little tv while hubby got up and drove the UHaul truck back into work. He was going to have the work studies unload it and have me meet him at UHaul at 1145am. So I set the alarm on my phone and went back to sleep.
At 1115am, hubby calls me and asks if I am going to meet him at UHaul and I thank him for waking me up as my phone alarm, as I found out, was not set correctly and I missed my time to get up. I hurriedly got dressed and left. I drove to UHaul and waited for hubby.
Hubby got the truck checked back in and joined me in the car. He had an important doctor's appointment coming up in an hour and a half so we went to Sheldon's Luncheonette for lunch, it was on our way. When we stopped at the luncheonette, hubby and I decided to sit at the counter and have the special, a couple of open faced roast beef sandwiches with a side of mashed potatoes smothered in brown gravy. I ate about a forth of my sandwich and mashed potatoes and brought the rest of it home for tomorrow.
We arrived at the doctor's office and checked in. About 10 minutes later they called us back. See, hubby has been passing blood when he poops, not all the time but now it happens a lot. A bright red blood that might be from hemorrhoids but he had no hemorrhoids that were hanging out so since this has been going on for a couple of months now, he was getting kind of worried. His guts were hurting and all-in-all, it just wasn't looking good so it was time to get it checked out. The doctor came in and talked with him for a few minutes, then told him he would need a colonoscopy, a set of labs and a rectal exam. That was my cue to step out.
The good news is the doctor did find that hubby has internal hemorrhoids but couldn't identify the source of the bleeding. And, especially with people over 50, anytime there is an extended period of time of bleeding, it is better to be safer than sorry and completely check everything out. So we went downstairs to the lab, got his blood drawn, picked up his stool sample pack to mail back in, then left.
Hubby was a little freaked about the whole experience and the possibility about the whole thing possibly being colon cancer. Symptoms of colon cancer are bleeding from the rectum, pain in the gut, sore rectum and pencil thing poop. Now hubby doesn't have the pencil poop but he does have the rest of it so we are a little worried. He did have a colonoscopy 5 years ago so if he does have colon cancer, hopefully this is an early diagnosis.
To take his mind off of this, we went to the library. I wanted to join the Friend of the Library and then check out some more books. First we had to pay our fine, over $40! Boy, we really screwed up! Anyway, we paid it off and went to town checking out a bunch more. We used to go to the library every Sunday and I miss that. So we are going to start going again.
When we got home, we had a little down time before I went over to the neighbors for the dogs. I did everything and then called hubby to meet me outside and we took the dogs for a walk. We got a good 25 minute walk in. The dogs are settling down and all is going well.
We ended the night by watching a VHS tape we recently picked up called What's Up, Doc? with Barbara Straighsand.
