Accident, Friday, May 29, 2015

Today was a grateful day.  The alarm went off at 845am and I laid in bed trying to squeeze in another few moments of eyes shut time.  10 minutes later I jerked awake and jumped out of bed.  I immediately got in the shower and then got dressed in my Zoo Docent uniform.  My short sleeve green polo, my elastic waist tan pants and my sneakers.  I wore my ankle sleeve since my ankle was sore from yesterday.  See I wore a clunky pair of clogs that were heavy and hurt my feet to the store and it made my ankle really sore again.  I am on week three with this sprained ankle.  Getting better but it still hurts.  I really want to start walking next week but I will have to start out slow.
I dropped off hubby at work and continued on to the Zoo.  When I got there, the volunteer/employee lot was filled to capacity so I had to park out on the lot with the guests.  Then I had to walk up the big hill and go to the Admin building where Base is.  Base is where the Zoo operator is, the Zoo staffer that handles the switchboard.  It's also where the Docent sign up book for the joey handling is.
The season of holding the baby wallaby has started and June's schedule was out.  I looked in the book and only the afternoon sessions are still available.  7 days a week Docents will alternate holding our only joey with Australian reptiles.  The morning session of 10 to 1pm give the two Docents 2 hours to hold the joey and one hour of showing the reptile.  The afternoon session has 1 hour of holding the joey and 2 hours of showing a reptile.  It's ok as I like reptiles too and this is a great way for me to get in a lot of hours towards my 30 hour requirement.
Then I went to Rocky Mountain Wild and played Docent in Wolf Woods.  I was able to spot the wolves out right away and helped a lot of guests see them.  I brought out the Mexican Grey Wolf pelt and had the guests touch it and ask questions about the wolves.  I answered them the best I could.
When I was done with my 3 hours, I walked back out to my car and read for a little bit.  I left the Zoo and headed back to pick up hubby to switch the car.  I waited at the light to get on the freeway and when it turned green, I started to go when WHAM!  I was sideswiped by a speeding truck that came barreling through it's red light.  I'm ok, damn lucky, that the only thing that happened was his running board scraped along my front bumper and ripped off my license plate assembly and jacked up my bumper.  It tore the bumper off the mounts on the sides, breaking the quarter panels.  I am going to take the car in for estimates next week.
I waited for over 3 hours for the police to show up after I called 911 but since I wasn't hurt,  mine was a non-emergency and I had to wait until an officer was free.  Finally hubby got a ride and came down to where I was.  we waited close to another hour and then called the police back on the non-911 number and they said I could wait at my house and they would send an officer to me there.
We stopped at El Taco Rey, hubby's favorite Mexican place, and picked up dinner on our way home.  We were able to eat and then rest for a little while before the police showed up.  Officer Blair was good and professional and got the report.  We told him where the truck that hit me was parked and showed him the pictures I took of it.  I gave him my witnesses information and what they said.  I had 3 witnesses to the accident, one was right behind me, and two followed the truck and saw them ditch it and where it was.
Well, it's late, I'm tired and it was a long day.  I hope tomorrow isn't so eventful.
